Race Roundup: CRUK Tough 10 Peak District

We took on the challenge of one of Cancer Research UK's toughest organised runs. Based out in Castleton, in the Peak District, the Tough10 trail run come fell race is definitely not one for the faint hearted but it's certainly a lot of fun!

Running for weight loss

running for weight loss

When I started running last year I had one goal and that was to lose weight, after a year I've learnt a lot about what works and what doesn't as well as what my expectations should be and now I have completely different goals! Here’s my running for weight loss journey.

The Corralejo Tourist Run Routes

the corralejo tourist run routes

Fuerteventura was a very relaxing (and much needed) weeks holiday for us but there’s only so much lounging one can do in a day! Every afternoon James grabbed his trainers (I tagged along 4 days out of 7) and we got some holiday running in. Thinking of going to Corralejo and want to keep your exercise up then take a look at how packed in the miles on holiday.

Corralejo Fuerteventura

a week in corralejo fuerteventura
Fuerteventura, the second largest of the Canary Islands, is home to many things; windmills, goats, miles of beautiful sand dunes and us last week as we headed south for (what we thought would be) a week of sunshine, relaxing and general holidaying. We thought we’d let you know what we thought of our time in Corralejo, the Islands busiest resort.

Do You Parkrun Yet?

Parkrun is something that we mention, a lot, and if you follow our Instagram you’ll see pictures captured by the photographers at our local park run - a lot. It’s fair to say it’s our favourite running event to take part and we wanted to make sure all of you out there can get involved and enjoy it as much as we do!

Running Gear: Trainers

Perhaps the most important part of any runner’s kit is their shoes. With that in mind I thought I’d share my current shoe selection with you. When investing in a new pair of running shoes it is important to know what you want from the shoe. Are they are to train in? Race in? Are they to run road? Trails? Or even fells? All these things need to be taken into consideration before you buy.

The Best Route up Kinder Scout

We’re very lucky to live within a 40 minute drive of the Peak District, it might be a vast area of hills and bleak moorland but it’s beautiful and provides the perfect place to enjoy the great outdoors. Kinder Scout is the Peaks' highest mountain, yes it is a mountain standing at 2,087ft (that’s 636m), and for us it’s the peak that's closest to home so as you can imagine we’re climbed it a fair few times!

Race Roundup: Manchester Half Marathon

This year marked the first time that a Half Marathon has taken place on the same day as the very well known Manchester 10km, so what better time to try it than for the inaugural run? I, along with 5,774 other runners, took to the streets of Manchester and if you're thinking of trying it too then here's what you need to know.

Race Roundup: Manchester 10km

The Great Manchester 10km run is probably the biggest annual sporting event in the city, this year 17,157 participants took to the streets to run, jog or walk the 10km route and for the first time I was one of them. For anyone who’s thinking of taking part next year and wants to know if it’s an event worth participating in then here is a summary of what you can expect from Manchester’s biggest run.

Running Your First official 10km

With all that’s happened in Manchester this week it’ll be good to return to something positive, the Simply Health Great Manchester Run! This time last year I knew loads of people taking part and remember saying to them “I’ll never be able to run 10km” – 1 year later and here I am ready for the challenge! This will be my first officially organised 10km event (one where I’ll be getting a medal at the end) so I thought I’d share with you some tips for how I’ll be hoping to reach my goals for my big 10km run.

The London Tourist Run Route

Planning a trip to London? Want to make sure your get your daily run in? Want to see the sights and not just loop around a park? We’ve got you covered!

london tourist run route

On our recent weekend trip to London we still wanted to fit in a run without it eating into our day. Running to and then around a park could have been a viable option but we thought when in London why not go and see the sights in a way we haven’t before – running past them! We wanted a route that wasn't too long (is 7.75km) and that'd ticked off loads of sights en route and we reckon we did a pretty good job!

How to Start Running

Put one foot in front the of the other, quickly repeat, it’s easy right? Erm no. There’s a big difference between thinking you should take up running and actually getting out there and doing it. If you’d asked me this time last year if I’d ever be a runner I’d probably have laughed at you, I couldn't even get to the end of the road without stopping. If you do want to start running here are a few little tips which helped us get over the initial barrier, before you know it you’ll be calling yourself a runner too!

2017 Travel Destinations

Formulating our travel plans for 2017 seemed to be a bit of a slow starter this year, it wasn't until mid-April that we finally had things booked in to look forward to! I both love and hate travel planning, it’s so exciting to find new places to visit but it can definitely be a difficult experience trying to get the best deal and coordinate it properly. Without further ado here’s what made our list of top destinations to travel to in 2017!
