Race Roundup: Manchester 10km

The Great Manchester 10km run is probably the biggest annual sporting event in the city, this year 17,157 participants took to the streets to run, jog or walk the 10km route and for the first time I was one of them. For anyone who’s thinking of taking part next year and wants to know if it’s an event worth participating in then here is a summary of what you can expect from Manchester’s biggest run.

Running Your First official 10km

With all that’s happened in Manchester this week it’ll be good to return to something positive, the Simply Health Great Manchester Run! This time last year I knew loads of people taking part and remember saying to them “I’ll never be able to run 10km” – 1 year later and here I am ready for the challenge! This will be my first officially organised 10km event (one where I’ll be getting a medal at the end) so I thought I’d share with you some tips for how I’ll be hoping to reach my goals for my big 10km run.

The London Tourist Run Route

Planning a trip to London? Want to make sure your get your daily run in? Want to see the sights and not just loop around a park? We’ve got you covered!

On our recent weekend trip to London we still wanted to fit in a run without it eating into our day. Running to and then around a park could have been a viable option but we thought when in London why not go and see the sights in a way we haven’t before – running past them! We wanted a route that wasn't too long (is 7.75km) and that'd ticked off loads of sights en route and we reckon we did a pretty good job!

How to Start Running

Put one foot in front the of the other, quickly repeat, it’s easy right? Erm no. There’s a big difference between thinking you should take up running and actually getting out there and doing it. If you’d asked me this time last year if I’d ever be a runner I’d probably have laughed at you, I couldn't even get to the end of the road without stopping. If you do want to start running here are a few little tips which helped us get over the initial barrier, before you know it you’ll be calling yourself a runner too!

2017 Travel Destinations

Formulating our travel plans for 2017 seemed to be a bit of a slow starter this year, it wasn't until mid-April that we finally had things booked in to look forward to! I both love and hate travel planning, it’s so exciting to find new places to visit but it can definitely be a difficult experience trying to get the best deal and coordinate it properly.
